Club
Registration Information
for the 2005-2006 school year
Starting
this year, all clubs (whether "official" or "unofficial")
will need to register with TAMS Student Activities. In addition,
each Spring, clubs will have to apply to become "official"
clubs - whether they are currently an official club or whether
they desire to become an official club - for the following school
year. Below you will see all the necessary information relating
to this process:
Official
and Unofficial Club Designations
TAMS Student
Activities will have no more than 25 official clubs during any
given school year. This number makes sense given the number of
students in our population, the number of staff members available
to advise organizations, the limited amount of room and equipment
resources, and the limited amount of financial resources.
All clubs –
official and unofficial – must register their club each
year. If a club is not registered, they will have no privileges
within the TAMS community (room, van, and equipment reservations,
advertising, etc.). Unregistered clubs at TAMS have the freedom
to exist, however, their abilities to flourish will be extremely
limited. There will be minimal requirements for clubs to qualify
for registration:
• Club name
• Club purpose/mission
• List of executives
Each spring,
the current official clubs must submit an application for retaining
their official status. In addition, current unofficial clubs will
be able to apply, through the same process to become an official
club. (In order for an unofficial club to qualify, they must have
been in existence within the TAMS community for at least one full
semester prior to applying.) This will be reviewed by a committee
of past and present student leaders, staff advisors, and the Assistant
Director of Student Life. The committee will be looking at the
following factors in making its decision:
• Purpose of club and how this purpose relates to needs
within the TAMS community.
• What the club has contributed to the TAMS community during
the past school year.
• What is the scope of the clubs influence (including number
of students involved).
• What are the ideas of the new officers for next year’s
club.
The
following is a list of privileges that go along with official
status:
• Program Advisor
• Line item in budget allocation (use of TAMS funds and
accounting system)
• First chance to get on calendar for rooms, vans, and equipment
• Official club only programming hours in hall
• Web space on the TAMS server
• Free photocopies and fax machine use
• Advertising benefits
• Up to 10 community service hours per semester per exec
for club service
• Special equipment check-out
• Leadership Training
• Storage Space options
The
following are what unofficial status offers:
• Use of rooms, vans, and equipment (once calendar is open
to general public)
• Limited opportunities for advertising (wing announcements,
fliers, etc.)
• Able to apply for funding from general unofficial club
pool of money
